Technical Manager Catalysis

Key Responsibilities:
  • To proactively lead best EHS practices across areas of responsibility, demonstrate leadership, challenge and influence change. Ensure compliance to all relevant policies and procedures and environmental and hazardous substance regulations for activities within the team, providing expert resource to support process safety assessments for both new and existing products/processes and leading by example through promotion of lifesaving policies and incident management.
  • To identify and take the lead in initiating new strategic catalysis programmes and ideas, across all disciplines of catalysis, to inform and influence the businesses strategic direction.
  • To provide technical guidance to the business and customers to ensure research outputs meet market requirements.
  • To provide technical leadership for the launch of new products. Analyse performance of existing portfolio to establish new opportunities for research led improvements.
  • To pro-actively seek to bring in new methods in all areas of catalysis, materials and analysis techniques that allow the Business to gain competitive advantage.
  • To play a leading role in technology transfer by actively promoting the movement of technology within the Group. Use internal and external collaborations to identify and implement new technologies.
  • To work with businesses (both PGMS and the broader JM) and customers to identify future technology and capability needs.
  • To use expertise and initiative to overcome technical barriers. Foresee technical and organisational problems and act early to minimise their impact
  • To demonstrate a track record of innovation and inspire others to innovate, leading to tangible results. Show creativity across a broad range of areas by developing world class technology in the development of catalyst products and catalytic applications.
  • To manage multiple projects by applying knowledge and expertise to ensure successful deliver of BU objectives.
  • To play important role in the strategic direction of the BU and wider JM by providing technical leadership in all catalytic applications supported by the Taloja site.
  • To lead, manage and develop direct reports and wider team, ensuring high levels of performance and a Play to Win culture. To also support development of personnel within the commercial function to ensure good understanding of technical solutions that support delivery of commercial requirements. ï‚· To encourage and nurture technical skills and creativity in other members of the team. To address any issues and performance concerns in a timely manner.
  • To represent the Business and at external events and to act as an expert and thought leader in catalysis. To initiate, develop and use external networks including academics and consultants to raise awareness about the products and services and help create new commercial opportunities.
Role Proficiencies:
  • 15 years of experience
  • PhD in Chemistry or related relevant subject
  • Extensive industrial experience of leading both R&D projects and people
  • Heterogeneous catalysis and organometallic background
  • Knowledge of biocatalytic technology
  • People Leadership/Management Experience
  • Process development expertise
