Subject Matter Expert : Inpatient DRG Coding

Key Responsibilities:

Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient services, understanding their impact on DRG with reference to CC/MCC, adhering to official coding guidelines and client-specific guidelines.
Abstract additional data elements during chart review as needed.
Adhere to ethical standards of coding as established by AAPC and/or AHIMA.
Maintain coding productivity of 1.5 - 2.5 charts per hour, meeting quality standards.
Stay updated with AHA coding guideline changes and implement them accordingly.
Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
Participate in coding department meetings and educational events.
Ensure confidentiality and security of patient records in compliance with HIPAA policies.

Role Proficiencies:

Technical Skills: Proficiency in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems. Experience with DRG assignment and understanding of CC/MCC classifications. Familiarity with AHA coding guidelines and updates.
Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Effective communication skills for providing feedback and collaborating with team members. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet productivity standards.
