How To Do Makeup for Virtual Interviews

To makeup or not to makeup for a virtual interview?

The human race has been obsessed with makeup for a very long time. From Cleopatra crushing carmine beetles to make DIY lipstick to Italian renaissance women using eye drops concocted from Deadly nightshade. It is interesting to mention that deadly nightshade was known to cause blindness overtime and yet history mentions many women opting to use it. A roman philosopher named Plautus went on to say, “A woman without paint is like food without salt.”

Thankfully we do not have to risk our lives for a little bit of mascara. Makeup has not lost its charm in the modern world. In fact In 2020, the global face makeup market was valued at US$ 42.7 Billion. You may not see the allure of wearing makeup but you have to appreciate the pull the industry has. Virtual/video interviews are the thing now!

In fact many job opportunities out there offer permanent WFH. Which is absolutely great! Till you realise that you have to appear for a video interview to get the job. In fact, you may have to regularly be part of video meetings. So should you use makeup for a video interview? You can choose to put on makeup or not. That one is absolutely up to you. If you do choose to apply makeup make sure to do it right. Video will make the you are using a little less intense. So a hot pink may look closer to a subtle pink lipstick. We sat down, (virtually), with an ex brand manager of a major beauty brand to get a few inside tricks to the perfect virtual makeup look.

1. Face - You'll need to perfect your complexion but since you don't need the makeup to last too long, you can skip the primer. You'd want to stay away from shine so go with a matte foundation. If you don't need much coverage, you can go for a BB cream topped with a matte powder foundation.

Add some rosy blush that gives you a lively appearance. Brighten your under eyes by using a concealer a couple of shades lighter than your skin tone

2. Eyes - You can go simple with eye makeup. Groom your brows with an eyebrow pencil.

You don't need expertly applied eyeshadow - just gently define your crease with a matte nude brown shade. Use a little kajal to define your lower lash line or you can opt for a little nude kajal/eyeliner on the lower lashline to give your eyes a fresher & well rested look.

And of course, sweep on your favourite mascara to finish the look.

3. Lips - Now I know you think you must go neutral for a job interview but that doesn't limit your choices. You can go for a barely there nude shade (your fav MLBB shade) or a more noticeable shade like a rosy pink. You can even go for a more confident mauve or chocolate shade which are still neutral and professional.

Cleopatra used her witt and a little bit of makeup to charm her enemy. The formula remains the same for your next job interview as well. A little bit of wit and may be a little makeup. There are two kinds of women in the world. Who wear makeup and those who don't.

You can be on either side of the line but it would help to reshare this blog with women who do choose to makeup.
